Website Loading Speed is certainly a factor in Optimizing your Website for Search Engines and it also makes the experience of visitors pleasing behind your motive of making money via ads or purely sharing quality information.

So a good load speed can make your visitors happy and can also increase your rankings. You can take advantage of Site speed which is a neat feature of Google Analytics that lets you see the load time of your pages. This will help you check what pages need your attention and determine you to look for ways of speeding up the load time of your pages.

Here are the Tips to Increase Website Speed

1. Enable Gzip

Minify is the process (and software) for removing unnecessary formatting characters from code. This makes your files smaller and your visitors happier. You can learn all about this process here.

2. Minify Javascript/CSS

Minify is the process (and software) for removing unnecessary formatting characters from code. This makes your files smaller and your visitors happier. You can learn all about this process here.

3. Optimize Images

You can take advantage of the countless man hours that have been devoted to image compression and make your users happier by simply saving your images as the appropriate type. As a very general rule of thumb, I recommend saving photos as JPEGs and graphics as PNGs.

4. Use External Javascript/CSS

When a browser requests a website from a server it can only download a set number of files of the same type at any given point. While this isn’t true of all file types, it is a good enough reason to host applicable files on alternative subdomains. This is only recommended for sites where the pros of speed will outweigh the SEO cons of creating a new subdomain.

While redirects can be extremely useful, it is important to know that implementing them does force your servers to do slightly more work per applicable request. Always avoid redirect strings (301 -> 301 -> 200 or even worse 301 -> 302 -> 200) and use these tools sparingly.

I recently became a U8800 owner and I decided to flash it with the latest MIUI ROM, only to find out that their stock Android keyboard does not yet support text prediction in Greek or Greek keyboard at all. Since I didn’t want to install a third-party Greek IME from the market, I decided to inject a Greek dictionary found in a previous CM Release plus a Greek keyboard supporting existing LatinIME.apk (from htc devs on a stock 2.3.5 keyboard apk).

It should work on all devices/ROMs, but you can try and share your results.

I also removed all other dictionaries exept english / greek to make it light.

How to install:
1. Navigate to /system/app using Root Explorer and copy/rename your existing LatinIME.apk to a backup folder in your SD card (just to be sure, should things go wrong).
2. Use Root Explorer to mount /system/app as R/W and then paste the new LatinIME.apk inside this folder. Change the file’s permissions to rw-r–r– after pasting.
3. Reboot your device and go to Settings > Language & Keyboard > Android Keyboard > Input Languages. Under Greek, it should now say “Dictionary available”.

Download Link: LatinIME.apk

Are you sick and tired about the daily amount of spam comments received? Sure, there’s akismet, but here’s a little .htaccess trick to prevent spammers posting on your blog. The fact is that most spammers uses bots comming from nowhere. This code will look for the referrer (the page from where the commentator come from) and will deny commenting if the commentator try to access the wp-comments-post.php file without directly comming from your blog.

Just change the line 4 and specify your blog url there.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .wp-comments-post\.php*

If you want to hotlink protect images on your site and want to show an optional image telling hotlink disabled at yoursite.com – Visit yoursite.com to view this image and more. The point is when all other images will be hotlinked except hotlink.gif, only this hotlink.gif will showup on other sites, use line number 4 in below code or host hotlink.gif image on other site.

Here is the .htaccess code

RewriteEngine On
# stop hotlinking
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?mysite\.com/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/hotlink\.gif$
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpe?g|bmp|swf)$ /hotlink.gif [NC,L]

The first line of the above code begins the rewrite. The second line matches any requests from your own mysite.com url. The [NC] code means “No Case”, meaning match the url regardless of being in upper or lower case letters. The third line means allow empty referrals. The Fourth line allows hotlinking for hotlink.gif image only (except all other images on your site). The last line matches any files ending with the extension jpeg, jpg, gif, bmp, or png.

To stop hotlinking from specific outside domains only, such as myspace.com, blogspot.com and livejournal.com, but allow any other web site to hotlink images:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(.+\.)?myspace\.com/ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(.+\.)?blogspot\.com/ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(.+\.)?livejournal\.com/ [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png)$ http://i49.servimg.com/u/f49/14/49/36/80/hotlin10.gif [L]

You can display a 403 Forbidden error code instead of an image. Replace the last two lines of the previous examples with this line:

RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png)$ - [F]

Developing multi language web sites using PHP is actually very easy. A common approach is having an include file for every supported language which contains an array that maps string ids to localized text (for example “WelcomeText” => “Welcome to our homepage.” would be included using something like <?= $strings["WelcomeText"] >). However there are several problems with this approach. First of all, when the application is updated and additional strings are added, there is no way to determine which new strings were added and if they are present in every language (unless you write a script for it). What happens if a newly added string is not yet translated into a specific language? …
